Axon has a built in call attendant that can direct calls from an external line to any of multiple extensions. This feature must be turned on for the Axon system through the System Settings. By default the attendant runs on extension 501.

Changing your Extension List

When the call attendant answers, Axon will offer the option to listen to a list of extensions. This list will be specific to your setup and should be something like, "For John dial 101. For Susan dial 102...". In order to change the extension list prompt you need to go the Options dialog from the main UI. Select the Prompts tab and then find the 'extension_list' Voice Prompt in the list. Click 'Change...' to record or synthesize a new extension list. For more information on changing prompts, see Voice Prompts.

Using the Attendant

After you have set up the extension list prompt you should test the call attendant to ensure it is working correctly. To test the call attendant you can call the extension from any phone connected to Axon. The system will will answer with a prompt requesting you to dial an extension or press star (*) to hear the extension list. Verify that the extension list is correct and that dialing an extension transfers you to the correct number.

Setting the Attendant to Answer an External Line

The most common use for the call attendant is to route calls from a single external line to the correct internal extension. In order to do this, you will want to set your external line to ring on the call attendant extension. For information on how to do this, please see the help on External Lines configuration.

Note: If the call attendant functionality provided by Axon is not sufficient for your purposes you may want to download IVM Answering Attendant. It will allow more complex call flows including multiple menu prompts, fully configurable voice prompts and key press options, and multiple answering lines (e.g. Sales Line vs. Customer Service).
