The Numbered Notation is a musical notation system widely used in Chinese music publications. Numbers 1 to 7 represent the musical notes that correspond to the diatonic major scale (ex. 1 = C, 2 = D) and rests are represented by the number 0.

To open a blank Numbered score:

In the Parts Setup dialog, an existing staff can also be converted to a Numbered score. Select a staff from the list and use the “Staff Type” dropdown to select “Numbered” staff.

To add notes to the Numbered Score:

  1. Select a note tool in the same way you would select the tool for placing notes on other staves.
  2. Click on the numbered staff to place the note. Number 1 is used by default.
  3. Select the note, hold down Shift and the scroll the mouse wheel or type numbers 1-7 to set the value. When Shift + mouse wheel is used, the octave dots will also be added automatically.
